Project Objective
Design and develop a next-generation CMS that empowers content creators to build engaging, interactive e-learning experiences with an emphasis on storytelling, engagement and intuitive usability, ultimately increasing completion rates.
Problem Statement
The existing CMS at BeOne Development couldn’t keep up with the fast-paced e-learning landscape, lacking essential storytelling tools and an intuitive interface. This led to reduced learner engagement, higher content drop-off rates, and inefficient content creation.
Design Process
1. Research & Analysis (key insights)
Stakeholder Interviews: Interviewed 15 educators and 8 content creators. Key findings revealed that 60% found current CMS tools lacked intuitive storytelling capabilities and 70% noted difficulty in structuring interactive learning modules.
Competitive Analysis: Found that while leading platforms had strong content management capabilities, non of them offered interactive video storytelling features.
User Surveys: Surveyed 48 end-users, with 68% expressing frustration with navigation complexity and 74% indicating a preference for less text heavy and shorter content experiences.
3. Wireframing & Prototyping
Feedback Loops: Gathered input from key stakeholders, who reported that the prototypes provided clarity and helped align project expectations.
Creation of Animated Wireframes: Designed prototypes featuring drag-and-drop content blocks, interactive quizzes, and visual storytelling tools.
Cross-Functional Reviews: Collaborated with 2 developers to discuss the feasibility of interactions, leading to design tweaks that reduced potential code complexity.
2. Ideation & Concept Development
User Journey Mapping: Mapped typical learner paths and discovered that 74% of drop-outs happened during static content sections.
Wireframing: Developed low-fidelity wireframes that emphasised modular storytelling sections and a streamlined UI.
Design Workshops: Conducted 3 workshops with a mix of designers, developers, and stakeholders, resulting in 6 key feature ideas, including interactive timelines and branching content paths.
4. Collaboration & Refinement
Build a CMS with efficient interactive exercises and pioneering interactive video to boost engagement.
Regular Stand-Ups: Led weekly stand-up meetings throughout the development phase for consistent progress checks and real-time adjustments.
Design-Development Workshops: Led bi-weekly workshops to resolve integration challenges, such as responsive drag-and-drop features, reducing redesigns.
User Testing & Iteration: Tested with 15 users, with 70% finding the CMS more engaging and 85% praising its storytelling tools.
Iterative Design Adjustments: Made design refinements that simplified content creation, reducing module development time.
5. Pilot E-learning module
I led the design of a Phishing e-learning module, where learners took on the role of an apprentice hacker. They were guided through the process of setting up a phishing attack, which helped them understand red flags and how to protect themselves. The module combined interactive video elements with decision-based branching to create an immersive learning experience.
Post-pilot testing with 20 users revealed that 75% found the module more engaging than traditional e-learning. Additionally, 80% reported feeling more confident in identifying phishing attempts. Based on this feedback, we iterated on the user flow to further improve the experience and ensure it was both educational and entertaining.
6. Launch & Impact Measurement
Soft Launch & Monitoring: Rolled out the CMS to a pilot client with 500 users, observing a 34% decrease in content drop-off rates compared to the old system.
Feedback Collection: Gathered post-launch feedback showing that 80% of content creators found the new tools improved workflow efficiency
Performance Metrics Analysis: Monitored a 25% boost in module completion rates over three months.
